Since
2008, Bishop Kevin Perry with
Word of Life Ministries has
been hosting a community
gathering in East Knoxville.
We have crafts for the kids,
food boxes for community
members and activities for
all. It’s a day that
Bishop Perry looks forward to
each year.
“It’s just an
amazing day to just love on a
community,” Perry said.
“Everything we do here
at our ministry is always
about unity and the
community.”
On top of the activities,
Bishop Perry brings in local
East Knoxville businesses
and resources that people may
need.
“There are not a lot of
resources, and again, this is
a way for us to highlight
some of our some of our
community partners and
nonprofits for the people to
know that there are resources
out here for them as
well,” Perry said.
While this day is
about community, there is a bigger
reason to gather everybody: a bike
blessing.
Bishop Perry take time
to ask the Lord to give protection to
those riding their motorcycles this
summer. Dozens of bikers went to Word
of Life Ministries for the event.
“It brings the community
together just for a good day of food,
fellowship and fun, and you know, the
biking culture. It’s all about
camaraderie; it’s like a
fraternity,” Perry said.
Bishop Perry makes sure that each
biker received a blessing that would
ensure their safety ahead of the
riding season.
“The biking community comes
together, and we say a special
prayer, a special blessing over each
biker, for them to be covered and
protected during the riding
season,” Perry said.
“We’re just asking God to
dispatch his angels upon them who
pray Psalm 91, that he would give his
angels charge over them and so
that’s basically what it’s
about.”
